Soooo.. This happened today! Insane! Made my Friday that much more amazing. See it doesn’t hurt to share an artwork you’ve done of someone on social media, post it to their page, you never know they might see it and appreciate it! Which is amazing if they do :) It means a lot.
Half the comments were about how I had spelt “realise”.
IT’S HOW WE SPELL IT IN AUSTRALIA. I AM FROM AUSTRALIA.
move on, people!
My hand cut stencil of the rapper and activist Immortal Technique. One of my favourite rappers.
I’d been feeling very uninspired lately, and whenever there’s a lot going on in the world I tend to give up on the news and listen to music. Finding answers and knowledge in songs particularly by Immortal Technique and Lowkey. They’ve probably taught me more history than any of my high school history teachers have haha. So I’d been listening to a lot of Tech’s music and suddenly it became obvious, why don’t I draw up a stencil of him? I have done so in the past but it was pretty small. So I created this one. It took awhile to choose a lyric from one of his songs to use but the verse I took this quote from has always stuck with me. So I used that.
- Two layered hand cut stencil on canvas, done with aerosol paint.
- Stencil of Immortal Technique, using lyrics from his song "Toast To The Dead" from the album, The Martyr.
- 76cm x 51cm.
I had considered these other lyrics
- "Trapped in a ghetto region, like a Palestinian kid, where nobody gives a fuck whether you die or you live."
- “You make the future, but it starts with leaving the past.”
and, well plenty more. if you’re a fan, you’d know the list could go on for ages.
